Sometimes, just sometimes, Dreams do come true. From the late 60’s to the Millennium, I along with others whose love of Folk Music has been an integral part of life, have often dreamt of a Folk Festival, worthy of Bridport. Aug 2017 will see the realisation of that dream when we shall be blessed with an excess of 50 acts. Many you may be familiar with, others less so but collectively we have an array of Folk talent that would grace any Festival stage. Foremost among whom is highly acclaimed Musician Reg Meuross.
Reg Meuross is an English singer and songwriter based in Somerset, England. He has been described as “a warm, engaging live entertainer whose same easy going feel informs his discs and their songs of love, longing and true life ‘stories’ Reg, a well respected and truly International artist, has kindly agreed to be our Patron for which we are truly delighted. The fabulous Polly Morris Band
will be sharing their inimitable talents bringing warmth and a smile with their crowd pleasing music and comedic repertoire.
If you could imagine the love child of Bill Bailey and Victoria Wood that would be Polly Morris. Her observational comedy songs about such things as supermarket shopping or the perils of e-mail, are songs that you can instantly identify with. These are peppered with more thoughtful acoustic numbers that are reminiscent of Karen Carpenter. Polly has been performing her songs as a solo artist from an early age but, in the last few years, has been performing with her Dorset Based Comic-Folk band. The Polly Morris Band comprises Main vocals, guitar, harmony vocals, fiddle, saxophone, flute, accordion and piano.
The Polly Morris Band headline the Festival launch concert at the Electric Palace with support from Kadia. Special price Tickets £8 ( £7.50 + .50p ) in Advance from the Electric Palace and TIC Bridport or £10 ( £9.50 + .50p ) on the door.
“Ahoy Me Hearties”
There will be Shanty Crews a plenty to proclaim the heart warming songs of the sea,
‘Dorset Wrecks’ sea shanty group are booking gigs for their 2017 “Bright Eyed & Stiff” tour to celebrate the release of their CD of the same name. We have played at Fetes, Camp Bestival, local Festivals, Charity gigs, Weddings, birthdays, pubs, Mayoral & Maritime events and Community events such as Care homes.
Call 07805884786 for details and to book.
Btw BE&S refers to how you should buy your fish to ensure it is first class and top quality, just like the Dorset Wrecks and their CD
‘Harry Browns ‘.
We are a Bristol based shanty group with over 35 years experience mainly singing songs from our part of the country or associated with Bristol and its maritime past.
We have sung at most of the maritime festivals both in this country and Europe, and are widely regarded as the most experienced shanty group in the Bristol area.
Our singing is mature and well balanced, like a good beer, with voices able to deliver a paint stripping, gale force shanty, or tender songs about love and loss in soaring harmonies.
We sing for the love and enjoyment of singing, to share this with an audience and to keep alive the music and traditions of those who went to sea, or wait on the shore .
